Underground Diaries, Part 32
Covering rocketeers and amateur model rocketry was the good idea of my publisher Cyrus Krohn. Though I understood people like Burt Rutan were building breathtaking private sector spaceships, I still thought of model rocketry as something done by kids with modest kit rockets. And it is…though some of the kids are my age and their rockets are immodest two-story, multi-engine projectiles that top out around 100,000 feet.
I’m kinda partial to my song for this vid. Dirk Ward’s arrangement and production are a (dare I say) soaring homage to the original rocket man.
The crucial onboard rocketry video is courtesy of Eric Gates and Gates Brothers Rocketry
ROCKETRY LOVE
Miskell/Ward
It’s not his job 5 days-a-week
She’s never left this atmosphere
But when the launch commander speaks
They’re rocketeers
Rocketeers
Heaven’s above
Shot full of your
Rocketry love
Rocketeers
Shooting stars
Who goes this far
For rocketry love?
They send their ships off to the sky
Though they’re far from home out here
Their sons and daughters standing by
To be rocketeers
Rocketeers (hooo!)
Heaven’s above (hooo!)
Shot full of their
Rocketry love
Rocketeers (hooo!)
Shooting stars
Who goes this far
For rocketry love?
