Very evocative. I wonder if you ever saw that film "Night Tide" (61?) with Dennis Hopper? Filmed in Venice of the early Sixties when it still had the original architecture and housing that you describe. In the film there's this very cool sort of underground beatnik jazz bar where Hopper goes in and sees a mysterious woman. Do you remember that bar or know anything about it?
