I hate any place that makes you line up outside — as if that means something cool is going on inside. Some people like this place, the DJs, the scene. Others despise it. Your call.

Local dive gets a face lift, starts serving martinis—you know the story. The good news: it’s actually kinda better…and still not terminally hip.

Liam’s not here making cantaloupe martinis anymore, but this is Hal’s house and the joint jumps. Good vibe, great food. Live jazz weekend nights.

Bar/restaurant. Cool hang, can be a scene. Good food and drink, a little pricey.

his longtime boardwalk staple is colorfully situated with an outdoor patio right on Ocean Front Walk. Be prepared for a show — or lots of shows — while you eat. There’s a bar inside, but eating al fresco is the attraction of this place. The food is unremarkable but familiar. Be sure to go to Small World Books in the back corner of the restaurant, it’s a Venice jewel.
Open daily: 8am – 11pm
